  • MEMORY ETERNAL: FR. ANTONIOS PAPATHANASIOU

    The untimely passing of Fr. Antonios Papathanasiou is being mourned worldwide by everyone whose lives he touched in his 47 years. Fr. Antonios fell asleep in the Lord in Athens on March 29, 2022, following heart complications.  Although he was descended from a long line of priests stretching back to 1750 and his father, Fr.     On February 25, 2022, the Editorial Board of the B.E.S.T (La Bible en ses traditions / The Bible in Its Traditions) Bible Research Program at École Biblique et Archéologique Française (EBAF) in Jerusalem voted unanimously to appoint Fr.   • DR. LANA SLOUTSKY APPOINTED VISITING RESEARCH SCHOLAR

    Hellenic College is pleased to announce that Dr. Lana Sloutsky will be in residence at HCHC for this academic year as a visiting research scholar. Dr. Sloutsky received her doctorate in the history of art and architecture from Boston University. She most recently served as Curator of Exhibitions and Collections, and Managing Editor of the Journal of Icon Studies at the Museum of Russian Icons. At Hellenic College, she will research the formation and display of various museum collections of Orthodox material culture. Dr. Sloutsky will share the results of her work with the HCHC community later this academic year.

    On July 15, 2021, His Grace Bishop Joachim (Cotsonis) of Amissos, PhD, presented a lecture, virtually, on the iconography of Byzantine lead seals for the group of international graduate students enrolled in the 2021 Byzantine Coins and Seals Summer Program at Harvard University’s Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection in Washington, DC.   • HCHC HOLDS VIRTUAL COMMENCEMENT

    On Saturday, May 15, Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology held its first Commencement since 2019. The ceremony was unique in the institution's long history for two reasons: it honored the classes of both 2020 and 2021 and combined prerecorded segments with a live, interactive 'virtual kafeneion'  following the ceremony itself.     Dr. Stamatia Dova, Professor and Director of Classics and Greek Studies at Hellenic College, has recently published a new book, The Poetics of Failure in Ancient Greece (Routledge), which offers an innovative approach to archaic and classical Greek literature by focusing on a little-explored topic through close readings of epic, lyric, and tragic poetry.
